Problems with Race Field Legislation in Australia

An Australian Court ruled that the recently introduced Race Field Legislation in New South Wales does not apply to telephone betting.

According to the new law, betting operators that use racing data to offer bets are liable to a "race fields" turnover tax of 1.5%. The Court argues that bookmakers who take telephone bets do not display any racefields and are therefore not subject to the tax.

The racing sector in New South Wales considers that the judgement has revealed a loop-hole in the law and has asked the government to fix it.
