The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities takes steps to uphold the fair management of betting on horse races around the world

The Executive Council of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, with the backing of its 64 members, voted unanimously to draw up an action plan to combat illegal betting on horseracing, a practice that is threatening the integrity and good name of racing, the tax revenue racing provides to governments, and the rule of law and social welfare worldwide.

To implement this initiative, the International Federation has created the position of Executive Director and entrusted it to Mr Maurits Bruggink.

Dutchman and graduate of Leiden University, Mr Maurits Bruggink, 41, has spent his career in strategic and legal roles in a variety of companies (Arthur Andersen, Grayling - Havas Group). Until accepting this appointment, he was a partner in the Laross BVBA consultancy firm in Brussels.

Maurits Bruggink has taken up this position on 1 June and is based in Paris. Mr. Bruggink will report to the Executive Council, which is composed of twelve racing executives from Europe, the Americas and Asia.
