UK search for new head of racing

The British Horseracing Authority is recruiting for the vital role of Director of Raceday Operations and Regulation, in advance of the retirement of Tony Goodhew next summer. Goodhew joined the then Jockey Club as Director of Field Services in 1990 and the appointment, once made, will work alongside him for a number of months.

The Director is responsible for a number of departments within British Racing’s governing and regulatory body, totaling some 80 staff based predominantly on the racecourse but also at the central London headquarters. These include: racecourse licensing, turf management and the course inspectorate; medical; disciplinary and stipendiary stewards; and judges, starters and clerks of scales.

The appointment comes in a time of re-branding the sport and BHA believes the new person would have an leading role in the process of change.
