Finnish Supreme Court confirms gambling monopoly

The Administrative Supreme Court in Finland made a judgement last week in which it ruled that the government’s policy of a single license is legal and conform EU law. The government was challenged by international bookmaker Ladbrokes, whose application for a betting license was refused.

The Court bases its decision on rulings by the European Court of Justice, which allows gambling monopolies if they serve the public interest, are non-discriminatory and proportionate.
