Betting on thoroughbred and harness racing grew by 4,8% to €9 262 million in 2008. It is the 11th consecutive year of growth. Gross win – volume minus winnings – has increased by 1,6% to €2 185 million. The Internet betting site also showed growth to €540 million.

The growth has been driven inter alia by an increase in number of off-track betting sales points, a new visual identity and renewal of the 16 000 betting terminals. A positive effect came also from the built up during autumn of a €7,4 billion jackpot in the popular pick five bet.
