THE WORLD'S LEADING HORSES
(Covering the period 1st May 2007 to 28th October 2007)

MANDURO (GER) [130] has retained the mantle of top ranked racehorse in the world in the latest edition of the World's Leading Horses, which covers the period 1st May 2007 to 28th October 2007. His impressive performances in winning both the Prix du Haras de Fresney Le Buffard Jacques le Marois (G1) over 1600m and the Prix Foy Gran d'Albion Barriere (G2) over 2400m proved his versatility in terms of distance but it was his performance in beating DYLAN THOMAS (IRE) [128] and NOTNOWCATO (GB) [123] impressively in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) over 2000m at Royal Ascot that has confirmed his status as the best horse in the world as ranked by the panel of official handicappers drawn from the major racing nations affiliated to the IFHA.

CURLIN (USA) [128] is now ranked the top horse in the world on Dirt and joint second overall following his outstanding victory over HARD SPUN (USA) [121] in the Breeders' Cup Classic (Powered by Dodge) (G1), while ENGLISH CHANNEL (USA) [124] assumed the status of top Turf horse in North America in comprehensively defeating his rivals in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (G1). Other winners from the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships to put up career best performances at Monmouth Park last week and warrant inclusion in the Top 50 of the World's Leading Horses include KIP DEVILLE (USA) [122], for defeating EXCELLENT ART (GB) [122] in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (G1), MIDNIGHT LUTE (USA) [120] for winning the TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) and CORINTHIAN (USA) [120] in winning the inaugural Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (L).

Other notable performances in the period under review include two progressive three year olds putting up career best efforts in fighting out the finish of the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes (G1), namely LITERATO (FR) [123] and EAGLE MOUNTAIN (GB) [122]. Meanwhile, in Australia, two noteworthy victories warrant inclusion in this edition of the World's Leading Horses, namely EL SEGUNDO (NZ) [122], for going one better in this year's Tattersalls Cox Plate (G1) and MALDIVIAN (NZ) [120] (G1) for winning the Yalumba Caulfield Stakes (G1).

MEISHO SAMSON (JPN) [122] emulated former Japanese stars Special Week (JPN) and T.M. Opera O (JPN) by completing the prestigious Tenno Sho double with a decisive success in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) (G1) over 2000m at Tokyo racecourse, complementing his victory in the Tenno Sho (Spring) over 3200m at Kyoto in April. Meanwhile, CLOUDY'S KNIGHT (USA) [119] became top horse in Canada and confirmed his recent improvement by beating ASK (GB) [119] in the Pattisons Canadian International (G1).

The World's Leading Horses are compiled by the World Rankings Supervisory Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA). The next World's Leading Horses listing will be released in late November  2007.
