still retains top billing despite his recent defeat in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, but a number of outstanding recent performances are reflected in the latest edition of the World’s Leading Horses, the official listing of the top 50 horses in the world compiled by the panel of handicappers/racing secretaries affiliated to the IFHA (International Federation of Horseracing Authorities).

NEW APPROACH (IRE) [129] put up a career best performance in winning the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes (G1) by six lengths and in doing so vaulted to the top of the three year old colts’ rankings where he was soon joined by RAVEN’S PASS (USA) [129], who defeated HENRYTHENAVIGATOR (USA) [125] and TIAGO (USA) [123] in a historic edition of the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) run for the first time on the Pro Ride synthetic surface at Santa Anita. 

In other memorable performances from Breeders’ Cup 2008 : GOLDIKOVA (IRE) [125] put up a scintillating display in defeating reigning champion KIP DEVILLE (USA) [122] in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) : ZENYATTA (USA) [124] remains unbeaten having annexed the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1) in imperious fashion, while CONDUIT (IRE) [125] continued his remarkable progression this year when recording a career best performance in winning the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).  MIDNIGHT LUTE (USA) [123] created history by becoming the first horse to win consecutive runnings of the Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) and in the process achieved top ranking in the sprinting division. 

VODKA (JPN) [120] confirmed her status as best filly/mare in Japan by winning the Tenno Sho (Autumn) (G1) in record time, while VIVA PATACA (GB) [122] made an impressive return to action in winning the Mission Hills Sha Tin Trophy (HK3).

The World's Leading Horses are compiled by the World Rankings Supervisory Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA).
